Here be life with Anna

Update

These past three days I haven’t been doing so well.  My cough has become ferocious.  It is not that Anna has stopped doing things, but rather that I stopped having the energy to write about them.  Thankfully Deb came down to help out on Friday.  I know just how well we would be doing without her.   I am very grateful she is here.  To top things off, Paul twisted his ankle at work Thursday and was limping for a few days.

A few things of note from the past week.  Paul ordered a baby gate for the kitchen doorway from Amazon that arrived earlier in the week missing a few pieces.  The pieces should arrive soon we hope.  In the mean time we have had an improvised solution the past two days of putting two dining room chairs across the doorway.  Anna figured out this evening how she could pull them apart and gleefully get through.  That solution lasted <pause> two days.  I hope the feet for the step baby gate arrive soon.

Anna likes exploring JP’s (our neighbor with the fruit trees) front yard.  She likes the swing; she likes the dirt; she likes all of the things she can try and put in her mouth.  Paul has been taking her out to play and explore quite a bit the past few days.  Part of all of this is that she is so much more mobile.  As of last week walking was a form of locomotion, now it is the preferred form of locomotion.  She gets tired and starts to fall down a lot, but still goes back to walking.  Her speed is increasing too. She usually has something to carry with her on her multitudinous journeys too.  For example Ralph’s struck again and gave Anna a balloon which she carried around everywhere for a while when Deb, Paul, and Anna were over shopping.

The love of gadgets with buttons continues.  My iTouch, the phone, remotes, etc. instantly attract, and with much greater power than say her toy phone.  I’m sure its the greater response mechanisms.  After all the phone makes beeps when you push the buttons.  I don’t think we’ve called the Olympics yet.  I’m hoping my iTouch is robust because its taken a tumble or two as Anna’s object to carry around.

Anna now places objects.  It’s fascinating to watch her carefully arrange things or decide to put the animals/blocks/puzzle pieces back in their containers.  She’s still a 1 year old though.  They don’t end up in the containers.  This extends to arranging her food on her tray, on the table, on a parent’s hand, and sometimes on the floor if the hand doesn’t get there in time.  As part of arranging things she likes sitting on the footstool.  It’s her height.  She hasn’t quite mastered how to sit on something though and so tumbles are still involved.

The pictures are in chronological order.  If you want to figure out the day, check the clothes….

Chris, now we’re glad we did NOT call yesterday. Glad Deb’s there to lend a hand.
