Health Update

This morning Paul took me to see the doctor.  At the doctor’s office they found that my blood oxygen level was low and my chest had tightened up the the point where you could hear the whistling without a stethoscope.  They gave me a shot of  cortisao dexamenthsome in the rump which really hurt for about two hours.  I was quite vociferous.  The idea though was to get my blood oxygen level back up.  Apparently a blood oxygen level of 92 or 94 percent is of some concern and is probably why I’ve been so tired. The doctor also prescribed prednisone and noted that I had possibly developed asthma.  We were sent off to get another set of chest x-rays and requested to return tomorrow.  This afternoon the doctor’s office called back after they had received the x-rays.  The pneumonia which as of last Tuesday sounded like it was clearing up is now in the bottom of both lungs.  So the doctor put me back on antibiotics — a double dose of Levaquin and Azithromhycin since I had been getting better while the antibiotics were in my system.  He’s also possibly going to refer me to a pulmonary specialist.  We go back tomorrow to see where I’m at, discuss what’s likely going on, and learn more pulmonary specialist details.

I haven’t had any major coughing fits in a while and am having far, far fewer coughing episodes.  Not coughing more than a few minutes in a time and a session is also a big improvement.  Possible side effects of the prednisone include increased appetite and manic behavior which since it is late and I am not sleepy I may be experiencing some of it.  It’s going to be harder making myself rest as I should if I am buzzing.  In fact, I started writing this post earlier this evening and then got sidetracked trying to find what normal blood oxygen levels are on WebMD.  Numeric content is hard to find on that site.   Now it is after midnight.

Anna had a good day.  She finally was able to go back to sleep a little bit this morning during/after her morning nurse and it really helped.  Zarela did ask exactly how much corn did she eat for dinner last night.  I will admit that I find the number of poop diapers that end up getting changed at daycare to be a bonus.  (Anna likes corn right now and ate almost half an ear.)  Tonight Deb wanted to watch the some of the speeches from the Democratic convention.  So Anna and I read books while the convention was going on in the background.  Somehow, I am not as worried about her television exposure to the Democratic convention.  Technically it was via streaming video over the internet, but hey, that is our tv now.
